Axolotl

Ambystoma mexicanum

Acronym: AX

Legal status

Restricted or prohibited in several US states (e.g. California, Maine, New Jersey, Virginia, Washington D.C.) and in parts of the EU — check your jurisdiction before acquiring. The wild population is listed on CITES Appendix II, but captive-bred animals dominate the trade and CITES rarely constrains hobby transfers. GFP (transgenic) lines face additional restrictions in some EU countries.
