Ball Python

Python regius

Acronym: BP

54 traits4 loci3 welfare flags3 lethal-when-homozygous
Welfare-flagged traits
These traits carry documented welfare concerns. The flag is informational — it does not change calculator math, but it surfaces on the public profile of any animal expressing the trait.
  • Hidden Gene Womalethal super

Some Hidden Gene Woma Ball Pythons exhibit mild head wobble or stargazing (looking up at the ceiling). Less consistent than Spider's wobble and usually milder, but can affect feeding response.

  • Spiderlethal super

Spider Ball Pythons have a neurological 'wobble' — head tilt, coordination problems, sometimes missed feeding strikes. Every Spider has it; severity varies between individuals. The condition is permanent and incurable. Some breeders refuse to produce Spider for ethical reasons.

  • Champagnelethal super

Some Champagne Ball Pythons can exhibit mild head wobble or coordination problems. Less consistent and usually less severe than Spider's wobble.

Allelic complexes

Multiple alleles at one locus. Crossing two of these traits together produces an allelic-complex outcome (compound homozygote or named compound) — see Allelic complexes for the full mechanism.

BluEL ComplexCodominant
Allelic complex on the BluEL locus. Crossing any two of these alleles produces a Blue-Eyed Leucistic (BEL) phenotype; Mystic × Mojave has its own curated name (Mystic Potion). Mystic is included on hobby evidence (WorldOfBallPythons, MorphMarket); a minority of breeders dispute the assignment.

BananaCodominantZ-linked
Coral Glow and Banana were independently discovered and later proven to be the same gene. Z-linked: female × male crosses produce sex-correlated outcomes (e.g. female Banana × male normal → 100% Banana sons + 100% normal daughters).

Yellowbelly ComplexCodominant
Allelic complex on the Yellowbelly locus. Yellowbelly × Yellowbelly produces Ivory; Yellowbelly × Asphalt produces Highway.

Cinnamon ComplexCodominant
Allelic complex on the Cinnamon locus. Cinnamon and Black Pastel are co-alleles: pairing them produces a distinct cross-allele phenotype rather than an independently-segregating combo. Same-allele homozygotes render as 'Super Cinnamon' / 'Super Black Pastel' via the engine's super-expression rule. The cross-allele compound (Cinnamon × Black Pastel) has no single canonical hobby name; the calculator renders it as the literal allele combination.
